Spatial Relations is a modular video installation consisting of five geometric pedestals, each of which contains an embedded video monitor, a video projection, or a closed-circuit wireless video camera. This piece is an investigation and critique of the ways institutional spaces manipulate bodies and behavior. I use my body to inscribe a text onto these spaces that makes these manipulations visible in absurd and poetic ways. This piece revisits the themes and techniques employed in many of my other works, such as gesture, appropriation, multiple depictions of my body, and the use of space(s). Here I use these themes to depict spaces according to my particular experiences of them, and to implicate the viewer in a similar awareness of the dynamics of the space that I reveal.
